Hunger
After The Holidays
April
3, 2006 - BOSTON - Long after the turkey and cranberry sauce
have been eaten and the gifts have been put away, the generosity of
many people who contribute to food banks and church pantries during
the holiday season wanes. That is why it is so important for area
residents to get to know more about their local resources for food
distribution to those in need in their community.
“The money for this promotion came from WAAF listeners”,
observed Greg Hill of the WAAF Morning Show. “It was great
of Southbridge Savings Bank to offer a fundraising challenge.”
“Hunger is a year round issue”, stated Janet Garon,
Executive Vice President and Treasurer of Southbridge Savings Bank,
“That is why we were so passionate about offering a challenge
that raised funds to be distributed beyond the normal holiday timeframe.”
The “challenge” offered by Southbridge Savings Bank
came from their involvement with the WAAF Walk and Rock for Change
Campaign that has supported the Boston Food Bank for XX years. WAAF
listeners were given the opportunity to help generate “extra”
funds for the food bank in conjunction with the mortgage application
process.
