November, 2007 –Ed’s Place, Oakham, MA, is a 30 acre working farm operated by the Public Inebriate Program Shelter in Worcester. The organization is dedicated to the mobilization and utilization of resources, both public and private, in order that an array of comprehensive services including training, rehabilitation, education, care treatment, housing, food and shelter, be provided for the homeless, the working poor, indigent alcoholics, drug addicts and the deinstitutionalized mentally ill, regardless of race, color, or creed.
Southbridge Savings Bank nominated Ed’s Place for a grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston and they were awarded $1,000. Southbridge Savings Bank then matched the award with a $1,000 donation of their own. “Southbridge Savings Bank welcomes the opportunity to support organizations such as Ed’s Place that are located in the communities that we serve.”, stated Philip Pettinelli, President and CEO of Southbridge Savings Bank. “We feel that it is very important to support a variety of community needs throughout our twelve branch network.”
Ed’s Place was established in the town of Oakham in 2000 as a 16 bed, sober facility located on 30+ acres. Clients typically stay 6-18 months, during which time they work in the farm’s greenhouses, vegetable gardens and woodworking shop. Ed’s Place provides these vocational skills to homeless individuals in recovery, while giving them the therapeutic support they need to overcome their addictions.
